(Sprints overall finish) Kekoa Kai (30) Andy Cummings (36) Omar Gonzalez (81) Kulani Ryan (33) Looks like Jim Foti is giving Danny Ching some paddling advice PAA:KOANUI Come rain or shine... and they did from all over and from as far away as the Big Island of Hawaii to take part in two-days of racing. Weather forced a change in courses, but didn't dampen the excitement to get to the starting line. The first day began with a sprint; a short blast around the chan- nels of KoKo Marina. Keakua Nolan (11:42) from Kailua-Kona had the fastest time. Danny Ching was next (11:50) followed by Travis Grant (12:10). Lori Nakamura was the fastest woman (13:33), Mary Smolenski next (13:40), and Leah Ching third female on an OC1. Vance Hashimoto, V1 Shortly after this, a distance race took paddlers out into Moanaulua Bay, down toward Black Point and back. The wind was blasting, and this race proved most grueling. The next day, the race was from Hawaii Kai to the 'Blow Hole' and back. Danny Ching easily lead the way, but got too close to a rock and breached his hull. He still managed to finish 4th.
