ALLSTATE OAHU CHAMPIONSHIP
- SCOTT HAWAII GOLD CHALLENGE #3
- MAUI JIM WATERMAN SERIES RACE #5: OC-1
The Allstate Oahu Championships was held on the North Shore from Sunset
Beach to Haleiwa. There were 55 entered in the Short course and 76 in the long.
Conditions were good. That morning started off still and flat, but by the time the
race started, a squall moved in creating a wind swell that helped push the paddlers
down the race course. There was an outgoing tide which helped some and hurt
others, depending on whether they chose to hug the coast or make a b-line for the
Haleiwa Channel. Surfski paddler Zsolt Szadovski had the fastest time of 1:07:23.
Four minutes behind Zsolt were the top three OC1 paddlers lead by Travis Grant,
1:11:0, who also won $720. Travis was followed by Bobby Pratt, 1:11:11 who was 11
seconds ahead of Jimmy Austin, 1:11:22. This years' women's champion is Lindsey
Shank who finished her race in 1:19:43. The first in a V1 was Hayden Ramler,
1:22:21. There were twenty-three prone and SUP paddlers taking part in the event.
