Duke Kahanamoku
The Duke Kahanamoku Long Distance Race began with a beach start at Kailua Beach and finished in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. Thirtynine teams took part in the annual race hosted by Lanikai Canoe Club. After the crews paddled into a headwind up to Makapu'u Lighthouse, they found bumps all the way into Waikiki. Team Wailea/Team Primo took the lead at 'Flat Island' and were never challenged. They finished in 2:53.35, eight minutes ahead of second place Livestrong. Lanikai #2 was third followed by Lanikai #1. Hui Nalu Bud Light won the 40's division finishing fifth overall in 3:08.37. New Hope won the 50's, and the 55+ crew from Kailua Canoe Club won their division placing 19th overall.
