Hawaiian Canoe Club rules the day
Each year one of the Hawaiian Islands gets to host
the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association's State
Championship Race. This year it was MCHCA's turn.
Over 2,500 paddlers took part in a full day of regatta
sprints. There were 41 races with 56 clubs competing
for a spot on the winner's podium.

OVERALL RESULTS: in the AAAA Division,
clubs who entered 21-41 events, the top three-of-five
eligible clubs were Hawaiian (400 points), Lanikai
(386p), and Kailua (317p). In the AAA Division,
for clubs with 13-20 races, the top three-of-six
were Puna Canoe Club (215p), Na Keiki O Ka Mo'i
(126p), and Hui Lanakila (108p). The next division
down, the AA with clubs racing 7-12 events, the top
three-of-12 clubs was Keahiakahoe (114p), Na Kai
Ewalu (110p), and Kai 'Ehitu (109p). Division A,
clubs who entered one-to-six events, had the most
clubs looking for points. The top three-of-32 clubs in
that division were Wailea (70p), Kawaihae (51p), and
Waimanalo (42p).

The winner of the Senior race for women was
Outrigger Canoe Club with their crew of Jennifer
Fratzke, Angie Dolan Giancaterino, Amy Lawson,
Shannon O'Neill, Traci Phillips and Kahala
Schneider. Their time for the mile-and-a-half sprint
was 13:10.00. Second place went to Kai Opua
(13:24.75), and third Lanikai (13:36.34). The Senior
men's race went to Lanikai in 11:19.17. The crew was
made up of Nick Foti, Andreas Gaeta, Levi-Jordan
Goeas, Manny Kulukulualani, Igor Sobreira and
Karel Tresnak Jr. Second was Wailea (11:25.78), and
Hui Nalu was third (11:42.91).
