THE BUSINESS of PEOPLE
As the economy reopens and hiring demands change, Express Employment
Professionals is focused on helping people thrive and businesses grow
WE'RE GOING BACK to work. Across the city and across the
country, we are thinking about it - where, how and with whom
we want to spend our working lives.
Some may be looking for jobs lost in the pandemic; some
may be looking to pick up where they left off. Others may be
looking for fresher and more personally suited pursuits.
The team at Express Employment Professionals have been
working, all throughout the last 18 months, helping to keep
mouths fed, hospitals staffed and keeping our city's essential
businesses running. It is an experience that has seen them
grow as a team, both figuratively and literally, having added
20 per cent more staff since the pandemic began.
And now, as the pandemic begins to subside, Express is
looking forward to even more growth, knowing that for many
people, their working lives may be going through a period of
change.
" As the economy opens back up, it eliminates a lot of uncertainty
for people, " notes James Norris, co-owner of the Express
Employment Professionals London franchise. " We're going to
see a lot more people making a change and looking for their
next career - and we're helping them through that process. "
In London, that might mean people finding new, good-paying
jobs in advanced manufacturing. For others, it may mean
landing a position in a specialized pursuit. Express has seen
many sides of the changing work world recently, and see their
job as helping smooth out and facilitate that change.
" On the specialized recruiting side, we're up 40 per cent at
the midway point of the year, " says co-owner Michael Elliott,
referring to the uptick in people rethinking their careers.
" We're helping a lot of people that have found themselves in
the wrong job get into the right one, " continues Elliott. " People
are investing the effort to find the jobs that they should have,
where their experience and knowledge is valued and put to
good use. "
Not surprisingly,
the needs and demands of business
owners are changing, too. More than ever, workers are on
the move, and finding and securing the right people ― while
always a challenge ― is ever more so now.
In just about every sector, businesses are now tasked to
be more competitive ― and to invest more significantly in their
people. " A big part of what we're doing is helping companies
determine what appropriate wages should be, " says Norris.
" Skilled trades, manufacturing, production, distribution - all
those wages are going up. "
With the pandemic resetting employment and workforce
trends, Express has been working to understand the shifts that
are changing how people work and how business gets done,
and to foster employment arrangements and relationships that
are right for everyone involved.
" We like to do business with companies that don't just rely
on temp staff, " Elliott says. " We are constantly working with
companies to help keep good people around. "
It's the kind of relationship-based work that is reflected in
client satisfaction ratings far above industry averages. In fact,
Express just received the 2021 Best of Staffing Client Award
and the 2021 Best of Staffing Talent Diamond Award from
data consulting firm ClearlyRated ― designations bestowed
on fewer than two per cent of staffing firms in North America.
In the end, it's doing what Express has always done - linking
people with jobs, building relationships that are about more
than just temporary work and earning trust for their workforce.
And now, as the economy begins reopening, Express is
ideally positioned to play an important part in the rebuilding
process.
