UEG guidelines for clinical practice, as well as advice on their
development and implementation, which are also presented in a
dedicated collection.

Involving the new generation
After two years, the tenure of six highly motivated researchers
who supported UEG Journal as Trainee Editors came to an end.
(Lucas Wauters, Vincenzo Cardinale, Laura Kivelä, Milena Di Leo,
Julien Kirchgesner and Keith Siau.) They assisted the associate
editors for two years with a variety of tasks such as peer review,
proofreading and search engine optimisation. Keith was the
journal's first social media editor; he started the Twitter handle
@UEGJournal and managed to gain over 1,700 followers in
the course of 20 months. His continuous effort to highlight the
content of the journal was instrumental in increasing its visibility.
On to the next phase
The publishing house SAGE has proven to be a reliable partner
who helped us launch a new journal in a crowded field and
accompanied and supported it in its growth, but after eight years
it was time to explore new possibilities and directions. After a call
for proposals to various publishers and successful negotiations,
Wiley was selected as the new partner for UEG Journal starting in
2021. It is one of the world's largest publishers in and outside the
field of gastroenterology and highly committed to the changing
landscape of scientific publishing.
As part of this transition, it was also decided that UEG Journal
will become Gold Open Access, which means that the content
is freely available to anyone anywhere. Submissions to UEG
Journal that result in acceptance will be subject to an Article
Publication Charge (APC), however, authors from many lower-income
countries and authors employed by institutions that have
joined the National Alliance Licenses can benefit from an APC
waiver or discount.
Despite these exciting changes, the focus, goals, and scope of
the Journal will not alter, and the editorial board will continue to
apply the same rigorous standards of peer review and acceptance
criteria that researchers should expect when publishing in
a UEG title.
