Acting as the united voice of European Gastroenterology
towards the public and policy makers
Despite its challenges, 2020 has brought health into an unprecedented
spotlight on the political agendas. Since extraordinary
situations call for extraordinary measures, we have been pleased
to see many important public health policy initiatives moved
forward in 2020.
To make sure the needs and interests of our community are
considered in the relevant decision-making, we issued 8 position
papers, throughout the year, addressing timely topics: COVID-19
& digestive health
, Colorectal cancer screen in the EU
, Farm to Fork Strategy
,
Front-of-pack nutrition labelling and Artificial
intelligence . We also provided expert input for EU consultations
on the Beating Cancer Plan
and on the interim report of the EU's Mission Board for Cancer
in collaboration with the Research Committee. On the occasion
,
of Pancreatic Cancer Day, we released a new position paper on
pancreatic cancer addressing the insufficient funding into
pancreatic cancer research.
We participated for the second time at the European Health
Forum Gastein with the session " Science of healthy living " .
Together with Dr Bente Mikklensen, WHO Director on Noncommunicable
Diseases, we discussed the impact of alcohol and
unhealthy foods on digestive health, with a focus on the commercial
determinants of health and the needed public health
