Raising awareness of chronic digestive diseases
through patient and media relations

Our vision is to create a united voice by connecting scientific,
medical and patient communities to act as a central hub of
European digestive health information and enhancements.
By working with patient organisations and key stakeholders, we
look to share best practice in our field and to raise awareness of
chronic digestive diseases. Our key focuses include reducing the
alarming and heavy burden of obesity and alcohol consumption
across Europe through advocating healthy lifestyle choices and
diets free from high levels of processed foods. Other priority
areas include liver disease and IBD, as well as reducing cases
and deaths from digestive cancers by promoting screening and
appropriate funding.
Whether targeting the mass media or healthcare professionals,
we look to promote the latest research and developments in
digestive health through press and media relations. UEG Week
provides journalists from across the globe with the unique
opportunity to obtain first-hand expert opinions on the latest
insights from leading researchers and thought-leaders. We work
closely with press representatives in facilitating virtual press
conferences and one-to-one interviews. Hot topics at UEG Week
2020 included COVID-19 and CRC screening, endoscopy, pancreatic
cancer and IBS, with over 500 media editorials secured
across 23 countries within two weeks of the congress.
UEG Week also provided a dedicated patient relations zone
within the myUEG Community hub, featuring information and
links to patient organisation websites, including the European
Federation of Crohn's and Colitis Organisations (EFCCA), Digestive
Cancers Europe and the European Liver Patients' Association
(ELPA). An EFCCA press release on a recent survey on IBD and
COVID-19 was also included in the official UEG Week press pack
for registered journalists at the congress.
