new UEG Journal publisher Wiley. Due to the ongoing spread of
the Coronavirus, UEG Week, educational events and all board
and committee meetings were again held in virtual form in
2021, which reduced related expenses. We are all thrilled that
UEG mastered another very successful virtual UEG Week and
Postgraduate Teaching Programme and also offered excellent
new digital learning content. Due to the pandemic related restrictions,
we had to suspend further in-person training courses,
in-person EU Affairs events and activity grant programmes.
However, we continued to offer many of our attractive prizes and
grants as well as fellowship programmes. Beside precautions for
UEG expenditures, UEG Council took the conscious decision to
continue supporting our excellent staff without any reductions,
to continue running our organisation and its activities at the
excellent level we strive for. UEG also invested in the inclusion
of further guidelines in 'GI Guidelines App', in the ongoing White
Book 2.0 poject, and in launching the technical platform for our
new myUEG Community programme.
Although the pandemic has not yet ended and we expect to feel
its consequences also for the years to come, UEG remains debt
free and has a solid financial basis. In order to remain sustainable,
UEG continuously reviews the expenditure structure and
provides new concepts for hybrid event organisation and an
extended digital learning environment.
Dear Colleagues,
as Treasurer of United European Gastroenterology (UEG), it is
my pleasure to provide you with the Treasurer Report for the
financial year 2021. UEG is a professional non-profit association.
Our bylaws constitute the legal basis for the operation of the
organisation. UEG is established in Vienna, Austria and complies
with the legal rules of the Austrian Law of Associations, incorporated
with Nr. 570340662 in the Austrian Register of Associations.
Our accounts comply with Austrian fiscal provisions. The administrative
and legal structure comprises the charitable non-profit
organisation, as well as UEG limited liability company (GmbH)
running the commercial activities, which is a 100% subsidiary of
the non-profit organisation.
Despite the ongoing pandemic circumstances UEG was able to
achieve a positive consolidated outcome of € 977,877 after taxes
in 2021. The positive performance was only made possible due
to the extraordinary one-time payment of the Austrian pandemic
support fund (€ 609k) and increased income provided by the
To provide a better overview, our financial report shows consolidated
revenue and expenditure situation in 2021.The financial
statements of both the UEG non-profit organisation and the
limited liability company have been audited. I am delighted to
share that the Austrian certified auditing company BBW provided
a favourable opinion for the external audit. BBW confirmed that
our bookkeeping, internal processes and final statements are
fully accurate. They also emphasized that our internal controls
systems are exemplary. Our newly appointed internal auditors
Professor Jonas Rosendahl and Professor Philippe Seksik, whom
I thank for the time and work invested, also confirmed that our
finances are in good shape and our financial management is
performed accurately.
