USEFUL INFORMATION Getting There Travelers from North America visiting Saint Lucia have a number of air service options to the island' s two maj or airports- Hewanorra International Airport at V ieux Fort (UV F), located 40 miles south of Castries, and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) on the outskirts of Castries. Eight airlines operate ﬂights from eight North American gateways, including from Canada and Puerto Rico. Ame rican Airline s operates nonstop ﬂights from MIA to Hewanorra International Airport. De lta Air Line s has service to Hewanorra International Airport from Atlanta's Hartsﬁeld-Jackson Airport. J e tB lue currently ﬂies to Saint Lucia from New York's JFK Airport. Unite d Airline s currently offers weekly nonstop service from Newark Liberty International Airport. US Airway s provides service from Philadelphia, PA (during season), and Charlotte, NC. Nonstop service from Canada to Hewanorra International Airport is available from Toronto via Air Canada and WESTJ ET. Additional service from Toronto includes ﬂights on board Air Transat. Fast Facts ENTRY REQ UIREMENTS: As of Jan. 1, 2008, all visitors, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), will be req uired to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. With that said, visitors traveling to Saint Lucia must carry valid passports (passports must have a minimum of six months' validity). V isas are not req uired if the visitor is a citiz en of the U.S. or certain Commonwealth countries. CUSTOMS REGULATIONS: The duty free allowance into Saint Lucia is 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco or 50 cigars, one liter of spirit or wine. Additionally, duty free shopping is available at Pointe Seraphine, La Place Carenage and at the departure lounge of Hewanorra International Airport. Lux ury items include j ewelry, batiks, giftware, local crafts, liq uor, cigarettes and cigars. CURRENCY: The currency of Saint Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC), which has a U.S. dollar exchange rate of US$1 to EC$2.70. U.S. dollars are widely accepted on the island. ELECTRICITY: In Saint Lucia, voltage is usually 220 volts, 50 cycles AC with a few hotels equipped with 110 volts, 60 cycles. Most sockets take U.K. standard 3-pin square plugs but some, though rare, take ﬂat American plugs, or 2-pin round plugs. Adaptors are generally available at the hotels. V ACCINATION: Immuniz ation is not req uired unless coming from an infected area within six days of arrival, however, hepatitis A, polio and typhoid shots are recommended. Drinking water is safe from the tap and bottled mineral/ distilled water is also available. Additionally, most hotels have " over the counter" medication, such as Aspirin and ﬁrst aid facilities.
