Many hotels have renovated significantly over the last year,
such as Villas of Grand Cypress and Wyndham Orlando
Resort. Stay tuned for news about a major conference center
development at Villas. Also, the highly-anticipated Four
Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort
opens this summer with 444 rooms, a championship golf course,
destination spa and rooftop steakhouse.
TAMPA BAY
It's been a long time in the making, but the development of the
2.2-mile waterfront Tampa Riverwalk, connecting most of
downtown Tampa's attractions, is anticipated to be completed
in 2014. The Riverwalk is a perfect spot for meeting attendees
to bike, walk, rollerblade and relax with lovely views of the
Hillsborough River.
Keep an eye out for the new Ulele restaurant and brewery
opening along the Riverwalk in spring 2014.
"A great way to capitalize on our waterfront, but stay on
dry land, is by hosting your event at the Tampa Bay History
Center, located on the Tampa Riverwalk just blocks from
the Tampa Convention Center," says Alex Kaptzan, VP
of convention sales/services for Visit Tampa. "The iconic
Columbia Cafe restaurant is the in-house caterer offering a
Spanish and Cuban menu that's been famous for 100 years."
For popular offshore events, Yacht Starship has a fleet of
three luxury yachts based in the Channelside District, outfitted
for upscale, restaurant-style dining. Planners with groups from
10-600 can choose reception, buffet or plated meals. Themed
cruises include Calypso Cruising, Black Tie, Cigars & Craft Beer,
and Dolphin Watching.
Yacht Starship also transports groups to a variety of hotel,
dining, entertainment and meeting locations throughout the
greater Bay area.
Visit Tampa is offering three incentives for meeting planners.
"Citywide Sale" includes free or discounted Convention Center
rentals during select dates, as well as specials from the
Convention Portfolio Hotels. "Bonus for Bookings" redeems
planners $1 per room night booked, up to $1,000. And,
depending on the individual program, "Discover Tampa Bay"
provides complimentary passes to The Florida Aquarium, Busch
