O One of the greatest selling points for Florida as a meeting, convention and incentive travel destination is that everyone wants to come to Florida. The reasons are as many as they are varied, with the beautiful weather and modern tourism infrastructure ranking at the top. "The business case for Florida as a meetings destination is that the Sunshine State offers a wide variety of quality property selections, ease of travel to, exceptional value year-round, sunshine and mild weather, and a productive and inspirational setting to boost the overall return on investment," says Cheryl Hatcher, director of meetings/events for VISIT FLORIDA. Hatcher adds that Florida offers a world-famous array of family-friendly and leisure opportunities to add pre/post programs to any event, which is growing in popularity and demand throughout the meeting industry." "Most of all, attendees in the U.S. and around the world ask to come to Florida," says Hatcher. VISIT FLORIDA offers many support programs and grants to assist the regional DMO partners and planners in bringing events to the state. For example, the Citywide Convention Grant provides marketing funds to DMOs for promotion and sponsorship for large conventions. The Minority Convention Grant is aimed at hosting multicultural meetings and conventions in the Sunshine State. And the formation of the Air Florida Initiative created new avenues for attracting more international direct flights into Florida's 15 international airports. For planners, VISIT FLORIDA offers complimentary supplemental "Cover Your Event" insurance during the months of August, September and October to ensure that planners can plan their meetings with confidence, and take full advantage of Florida's unsurpassed hotels, resorts and venues during these months, or any time of the year, while benefiting from the outstanding summer and fall values. "Florida has always been the leader in terms of our meeting product and large array of attractions and experiences, and they continue to grow," says Hatcher. "In overall product and experience, research states that Florida is at the top of the list, from multimillion dollar hotel/resort renovations to new groundbreaking convention centers and new theme parks, to over 1,200 championship golf courses, 825 miles of pristine beaches, and diverse outdoor group experiences. There is no other destination like Florida when it comes to hosting group business." "Florida has been the leader in terms of our meeting product and large array of attractions and experiences, and they continue to grow." 36 | prevue magazine 35-55_FLORIDA.indd 36 1/8/14 8:38 AM
