ALL IN A DAY...

45
MINUTES

LAS VEGAS
If attendees had 45 minutes of downtime, Massari
recommends a ride on the High Roller for the best
views of the city. "Attendees should also check out
the LINQ Promenade with tons of shopping and
restaurants. It's perfect for a dine-around or a
complete buyout."

PORTLAND

1

Wallace recommends one of the
world's largest bookstores, Powell's
Books, spanning a city block and
six stories, for groups with an hour
of downtime. "If your attendees like
craft beer, wine, coffee or spirits, it's
all locally made within minutes of our
venue. A good book from Powell's
and a beverage is an authentic
Portland experience."

This area's seafaring history makes
Mystic Seaport "a must-see," Washko
says. "Attendees explore American
maritime history by climbing aboard
historic tall ships, strolling through a
re-created 19th century coastal village,
or watching a working preservation
shipyard in action."

The two largest pillarless ballrooms in North
America will debut in Las Vegas in 2020
when Caesars Entertainment's 550,000-sf
Caesars Forum conference center opens
for business. Planners will be able to work
their magic in 300,000 sf of indoor meeting
space (the equivalent to more than five
football fields) and a 100,000-sf outdoor
plaza. The $375 million project has more
than a few perks, explains Michael Massari,
chief sales officer for Caesars. "The building
will be ultra-modern with lots of natural light
and the center will also be connected to the
LINQ, Harrah's and Flamingo hotels, giving
planners the ability to offer a tiered hotel rate
for their attendees."

Portland's LEED Platinum convention
center is getting all dolled up ahead of the
new 600-room Hyatt Regency Portland
hotel, expected to open in 2019 adjacent
to the center. The $35 million renovation will
beautify and further modernize the building,
with a focus on making the surrounding
plaza a gateway between the center and
hotel that is programmable for concerts,
receptions and conventions. Meanwhile,
the LEED-certified Hyatt will diversify
conventions and is expected to increase
convention business by 30 percent. "The
combination of the long awaited Hyatt and
an updated and remodeled convention
center will make a great package that will
be hard to pass up," says Cindy Wallace,
director of sales for the center.

"Float down the Texas-shaped lazy river at the
Marriott Marquis, or enjoy free yoga in Discovery
Green's 12-acre park," Gonzalez says. Grab a
bite at one of the nearly 20 restaurants in the
area (and don't forget to enjoy all of the public
art on your way) before catching a free concert at
our Party on the Plaza. For busy convention-goers
who rarely have time to explore a city, we've
brought the city to them."

Just a few minutes' walk from the convention
center are four bourbon distilleries (with two more
coming online this year), and they should be high
on the to-do, according to Bennett. "Each one has
a unique character, history and visitor experience
so attendees can learn more about a favorite
brand or explore an up-and-coming craft distillery.
Bourbon is such an integral part of Louisville's
history and culture that this is a great way to
authentically connect with the area."

The biggest part of Houston's recent
convention center renovation happened
outside of the center. Along with revitalizing
the facade and opening a grand concourse,
the area surrounding the center now
includes local dining, art installations and
live music. The Avenida Houston district
offers attendees the best of the city's food,
shopping, entertainment and activities.
