Combining team building and partying,
Fort Myers Beach's newest attraction
is the LagerHeads cycleboat, a 31-ft
catamaran-style boat that is propelled
through the water by passengers seated
at bicycle-style peddle stations around the
center bar. The cycleboat, which can be
booked as a private charter, accommodates
up to 15 attendees but has only 10 peddling
stations so that some members of the
group don't have to peddle.
The beach is the focal point for groups
meeting in this region, especially shelling.
"Since we are the home of National
Seashell Day in June, groups can go on a

guided shelling tour with a shell scavenger
hunt," says Jill Vance, director of sales
for Lee County Visitor & Convention
Bureau. "Other options are sailing school
team building, kayaking on the Calusa
Blueway or a cruise to Cabbage Key
Restaurant for lunch, which was the muse
for Jimmy Buffett's 'Cheeseburger
in Paradise.'"
The Island Inn on Sanibel Island is set
to reveal a multimillion-dollar refurbishment
this month of the Matthews Lodge, which is
being transformed from the ground up into
12 gulfview luxury suites. The Luminary
Hotel & Co., a new 243-room hotel along
the waterfront of downtown Fort Myers,
will open late next year and include 8,000
sf of function space connected to the
neighboring Harborside Event Center.
Sundial Beach Resort & Spa on Sanibel
Island has added a 12-court pickleball
stadium with tournament-grade facilities.
Attendees at the resort enjoy complimentary
court access and equipment, and lessons
are available.
NAPLES & MARCO ISLAND
Properties in Naples have been quick to
recover since Hurricane Irma. "Florida's
Paradise Coast is clear and our beaches,
resorts and hotels look great," reports Debi
DeBenedetto, group sales manager at
Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB.
On the beach in Naples, the Naples
Grand Beach Resort and LaPlaya
Beach & Golf Resort combined repairs
after Hurricane Irma with renovations
and enhancements. LaPlaya partially
reopened this past November and planned
