Hilton Istanbul A true meeting oasis within one of Europe's most vibrant cities [ON LOCATION] GREG OATES T he new Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center opened in January in the upscale Bomonti residential neighborhood overlooking the Bosphorus Sea. The many surprises and intelligent group features at this property, along with a luxurious design more typical of Hilton's Conrad or Waldorf Astoria brands, have set a new standard for Hilton in Europe. The resort-like amenities of this hotel will change the way Istanbul is perceived in the U.S. group market. Ataturk International Airport is 30 minutes away without heavy traffic. Everything about Hilton Bomonti is oversized beginning with the largest lobby lounge we've ever seen, below soaring 40-foot ceilings. Champagne, chocolate and caramel colors invigorate seating for over 100, anchored by a large see-through fireplace. The 829-room hotel with 85 suites is designed like a 3-pronged star with 11 elevators in the center, enabling quick access to public areas and 132,000 sf of meeting space. Groupspecific check-in desks in the main lobby and entrance to the Grand Ballroom greet guests. "There is nothing on this scale in Europe," says Baris Agacbuken, director of conference/event services. "There are maybe 10 urban hotels on the continent with this many rooms and the size of group space and public areas that we have here." A short walk from the lobby leads to four, naturally-lit descending floors of meeting space. The ground floor Junior Ballroom has floor-to-ceiling windows and doors that open out to the Crystal Garden, offering indoor/outdoor event and elegant dinner options below pretty Czech crystal lighting. Breakouts and prefunction space large enough for small exhibitions are on the floors below. All of the breakouts and ballrooms feature "iRoom Touch" technology that is controlled by a removable iPad. On the lowest floor, the Grand Ballroom hosts 3,200 pax theater-style, with drive-in access for small trucks and a dedicated kitchen as large as the ballroom. Up to 10 full-size coaches can park on-site in front of the Grand Ballroom entrance and check-in. The penthouse level holds the executive lounge, the hip Cloud34 bar and a private dining room, three unique F&B venues located at the end of each wing with great views of either the Bosphorus or the city. All guest rooms and suites feature gracious amounts of floor space, crisp and warm decor and desks with easily accessible media panels hooked up to flat screen TVs. The market-like design of the main dining area on the ground floor has an entirely open demonstration kitchen and a wide variety of live cooking stations. Four themed restaurants serve Turkish, Mediterranean, Asian/Sushi and Western Grill cuisines. The hotel's 57,000-sf spa is anchored by a long lap pool, which is rare in Istanbul. Large and small hammams can be rented out for private group spa time. The fitness facilities offer plenty of space, daylight, and private rental space for yoga and spinning. And this you're going to love. Across from the Hilton's port cochere, the ex-Bomonti Brewing Factory is a historic series of buildings that have been restored for additional, industrial-chic meeting space and eight F&B outlets. hilton.com; goturkey.com 94 | prevue magazine 94-95_Hilton Turkey_Aruba Marriott.indd 94 2/28/14 4:35 PM http://www.hilton.com http://www.goturkey.com
