Corporate groups find rejuvenation in Texas Hill Country

W

e found our #lostpinesmoment on the last night of
our stay at the 491-room Hyatt Regency Lost Pines
Resort & Spa in Cedar Creek, Texas. Feeling relaxed
after a spa service at Spa Django and having
finished a delicious Texas steak at Major Neighbor Grill, we ended
the perfect summer night in wooden rocking chairs overlooking the
Colorado River.
Located 23 miles from downtown Austin, the property revives
exhausted execs with wellness and nature activities that feel more
like summer camp for adults. More than 400 acres of land along the
Colorado River and proximity to McKinney Roughs Nature Park
facilitate immersive outdoor experiences such as horseback riding,
bird watching, fishing, kayaking, hiking and golf.
Complimentary bicycles for exploring the grounds and nearby
nature park, a robust daily activity schedule with kickball, flag football
and soccer, and inner tubing at the on-site Crooked River Water Park
are fun options for unwinding or covertly building team synergy once
the meeting ends. Groups can top all of this off with a nightly s'mores
roasting that allows them to mix and mingle or brainstrom while
appreciating the little things.
"Groups enjoy the run of the resort," says Ryan Galvin, director
of sales and marketing. "We're also able to cater pool buyouts,
outdoor concerts and interactive golf tournaments."

NOT YOUR AVERAGE RESORT
The property's combination of Native American history-the region
was once home to the Tonkawa tribe-mixed with Texas heritage
also gives it a rare story that keeps it from feeling too resort-y. Even

the 60,000+ sf of meeting and function space is decorated with
historic documents that helped shape Texas. Lavendar treatments
"to beat the Texas heat" are available at the spa, and with eight
on-site dining establishments, groups will surely experience
authentic Texas fare as we did, especially at Shellers Barrelhouse
Bar, featuring house-smoked Texas brisket, ribs and turkey. Or they
can try the upscale Stories restaurant, which serves up regional
cuisines, including native-to-Texas wild game.
While there's certainly enough to keep groups entertained
for days without ever having to leave the resort, the surrounding
area also promises adventure. We tried zip lining at nearby Zip
Lost Pines followed by lunch at Neighbors Kitchen and Yard in
nearby historic Bastrop.

over that of an urban destination," says Galvin. "When groups host
their event at Lost Pines, they are experiencing Texas in its native
state." Galvin says the resort also works with planners to coordinate an
"Austin Night" where attendees experience a night out on the town in
downtown Austin.
