MONTEGO BAY

The completion of a new highway system in 2016 cut northsouth travel time in half, and that, along with the quest for
authenticity, has inspired more leisure visits to KINGSTON. Some
of those visits are day trips by resort guests who want to see
the Bob Marley sites, the Devon House, and other attractions;
meanwhile, more Kingston hotels are renovating and opening
because some visitors now want to stay awhile in this iconic
capital city.
SEE/DO: The Bob Marley Museum, in the home where the
reggae god lived, is the holy grail for many music lovers. This is a
modest home, albeit one with vibrant murals, storied guests, the
Tuff Gong recording studio, and a collection of awards, personal
items (e.g. Rastafarian garb), and that trademark denim shirt.
SIGNATURE EVENT: Jamaican coffee, long loved by
connoisseurs for its combination of rich flavor and smoothness,
now has its own event: the annual Jamaican Coffee Festival.
This autumn celebration of great coffee attracts farmers and
vendors who offer samples and detailed descriptions of each
blend. Thus, it's not just one of the best sources of souvenirs in
the capital, it's also an education on how to buy-and drink-
coffee back home.
STAY: Let other hotels embrace the spare, contemporary look;
Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel keeps Olde Caribbean style-
formal, intricately carved furniture with brocade and chintz-
sparkling and fresh. This boutique hotel in a former mansion
pleases leisure as well as business travelers with its polished
service, swimming pool in a secluded garden, spa, fitness center,

The premier cluster of resorts in Jamaica-and one of the most important
in the entire Caribbean-MONTEGO BAY is also the gateway to Negril,
Ocho Rios, and other major destinations. It never gets old, either; in addition
to the debut of new resorts, the established ones keep raising the bar with
innovative renovations, fiercely competitive chefs, onsite experiential programs,
entertainment, and well-trained employees.
SEE/DO: Visit Chukka Good Hope, a nature adventure park on a former
plantation that has something for everyone. A tour of the Great House, which
was built in the 1700s, would be worth the trip in itself, but there's more: a zipline
amid the canopy, ARV and dune buggy rides, river tubing, rum tasting, good
food, three swimming pools, a river walk, an aviary, and a 300-ft. slide at the
Jungle Adventure Falls.
SIGNATURE EVENT: Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Rose Hall hosts the Jamaica
Invitational Pro-Am / Annie's Revenge ("Annie" refers to the legendary White
Witch of Rose Hall)for five days in mid-November. Considered one of the top
pro-am events in the region, the tournament features the Cinnamon Hill and
White Witch courses-all told, 54 holes of championship golf. Gladiators in
this battle for the Jamaica Pro-Am trophy may even find themselves on Golf
America TV.
STAY: This fall, Aimbridge Hospitality finished transforming the three 12-story
Palmyra condo towers into the Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa,
a 217-key, all-suite all-inclusive with huge accommodations that have been
completely renovated. Most have ocean views, too, and all include airport
transfers and butler service. There's a camp for kids, tee times at four great golf
courses, and one of the largest and best spas in the Caribbean.
