I think we have great products...but I think we also have a great staff. And that’s our biggest asset.” TOURISM AUSTRALIA Cathy Mulrine, Vice President of Wholesale, Goway Travel A 82 december 2011 Sydney and its dynamic port is a top draw for tourists. Another coup for Goway Travel: Recommend readers have chosen the travel leader as Best Tour Operator, South Pacific for the third year in a row—a feat accomplished by that tricky mix of outstanding products and the people to pull them off. “The biggest advantage we have is our staff,” says Cathy Mulrine, Goway’s v.p. of wholesale. “I think we have great products...but I think we also have a great staff. And that’s our biggest asset.” Goway’s comprehensive Downunder program encompasses escorted and independent travel options to Tahiti, Hawaii, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia. Among its wealth of choices, however, there are several that offer the “promise of something special”: Goway’s Holidays of a Lifetime, which are small, limited-departure grand getaways led by a tour director and providing up-close-and-personal experiences. In the case of the South Pacific, clients can choose to go in-depth in Australia, New Zealand or both. The 10-day Best of New Zealand option, which starts at $3,189 pp dbl, includes a cruise along the natural splendors of Milford Sound, visits to the Thermal Reserve and the Ruakuri Caves and a unique Maori concert. Another standout on Goway’s roster is its Snowbird Winter Escapes— the chance to leave a cold winter behind for one or two months and spend time in the sunny shores of Australia’s Gold or Sunshine Coast, New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty or the Cook Islands. Clients enjoy a fully outfitted apartment for their chosen duration plus assistance from Goway’s Sydney office during their time away. A stay at the Outrigger Twin Towns Resort south of Brisbane runs $1,880 pp dbl for one month and comes with pools, tennis courts and quick access to dining and entertainment venues. Coming up on Goway’s South Pacific program is a big push on preand post-cruise offerings, says Mulrine. “We won’t be selling cruises, but we’ll be selling airfares and pre and post options with Qantas Airlines and Tourism Australia.” These, she explains, are available online at and allow agents the opportunity to make more money. “They’re selling the cruise, so why not extend that—we can do all that and package it up with the airfare and pre and post, and it will also be commissionable to them.” These land excursions include anything from visiting the vineyards of the Barossa Valley to exploring the unique landscape of Western Australia. According to Mulrine, Goway will again be offering its Mega Fam to the South Pacific in May, taking at least 40 agents with them. “There are four different itineraries, all meeting in Sydney,” she says, with a day-long training workshop in Australia’s capital. One itinerary will go to Fiji and then Sydney, another will do Tahiti and Sydney, one will do New Zealand and Sydney and the other will do New South Wales and South Australia,” she explains. More information and updates will soon be available on Goway’s agents-only site, l contact information Goway Travel: (866) 515-2874;
