Recommend February 2018 - 8

E d it o r 's N o t e s
Like our cover says, the February 2018 issue is
all about upscale and wellness getaways, because
what client doesn't yearn for a pampered vacation
experience, whether visiting a resort or while on
a cruise.
In The Caribbean Wellness Push article on
page 28, Tammy Petersen, president of Retreats
Unlimited/Wellness Marketing Unlimited,
says, "Wellness travel has grown 50 percent faster
than vacation travel." No wonder the Caribbean
Tourism Organization has named 2018 The Year
of Wellness and Rejuvenation in the Caribbean.
Read through Caribbean editor Ed Wetschler's piece to get the 4-1-1 on, as Ed
writes, "some outstanding developments in pampering."
The North America piece, Wellness Trends in the U.S., on page 32, points
to six wellness travel segments that are here to stay for 2018, according to
Virtuoso agents: visiting masters; sugar detox; grief retreats; medical testing;
silence; and sleep therapy and sleep recovery. In the article, luxury travel
advisor Kathryn Schutz notes that "sleep therapy" is one of the most popular
requests she's getting for a wellness vacation. "Crucial for well-being. I'm
also seeing a lot of short wellness getaway requests from girlfriend groups,
bachelorette parties, moms groups, etc."
An idyllic wellness getaway is complemented by sumptuous
accommodations, top-notch service, five-star gastronomy, and inspiring
experiences-all things that speak to today's luxury traveler. In the cruise
article, Today's Upscale Cruise Style, on page 12, HJ Sauer, owner of a Dream
Vacations franchise, says that "luxury is also being defined by the uniqueness
of the travel. I find my clients want an adventurous or unique experience while
maintaining a high quality in lodging, meals and overall travel experience."

The NEW Kenya Authorized Travel Specialist
(KATS) Program
Recommend has partnered with the Kenya Tourism Board to bring
you the Kenya Authorized Travel Specialist (KATS) Program.
Most visitors to Kenya purchase their travel through travel advisors
and prefer to deal with those that specialize in Kenya, so completing
the program will undoubtedly boost your Kenya sales. Once you
complete the program, you'll receive 2 Continuing Education Units
from The Travel Institute and 12 Continuing Education Credits
from ACTA.
Upon completion of the KATS Program, you'll have access to
THREE elective modules that offer the opportunity for you to dig a
little deeper into this African nation. The Safaris in Kenya elective
module covers the country's various safari circuits, and the Beyond
the Wilderness elective module heads to the country's coast, where
activities such as surfing, scuba diving and skydiving abound. The
Sustainable Kenya module, meanwhile, covers the efforts being
made by Kenya to promote sustainability. You will earn 1 additional
CEU credit for each.
