Ed Wetschler has written an article titled
9 Top Resorts with All-Inclusive Packages.
That article, highlighting Caribbean
resorts with leading all-inclusive packages,
was originally 12 Top Resorts, then came
Irma followed soon after by Maria. These
hurricanes struck a number of Caribbean
destinations, including (but not limited to)
Anguilla, Barbuda, B.V.I., Puerto Rico,
St. Martin/St. Maarten, Turks &
Caicos, and U.S.V.I. You've all read the
headlines and seen the mind-boggling images of the devastation in
the Caribbean, and as my hometown is Miami, I'm still seeing on a
daily basis the damage Hurricane Irma's strong outer bands caused. It's
been a tough month for the Caribbean and Florida (not to mention
Houston), especially damaging when you consider that these islands
and Florida, too, rely so heavily on tourism.
But in the midst of all this damage there are glimmers of hope. On
page 47, for example, you'll see an onsite review on The Buccaneer,
located in St. Croix, in the U.S.V.I. As Ed Wetschler reports, "Only a
half dozen or so rarely used rooms at the 138-key resort were damaged."
Ed visited the resort prior to the hurricanes passing through, and, as he
reports, "everything mentioned here is as it was before the storms."
Florida, too, is picking itself up after the damage caused by Hurricane
Irma, with, as of press time, the Florida Keys set to open to visitors
Oct. 1; and Key West readying itself for the end-of-the-month Fantasy
Fest, which brings so many tourism dollars to the destination.
In fact, on those Caribbean islands that were hit by the hurricanes,
there are many properties open for business, and Florida, too, is back to
business as normal. Check recommend.com for further updates.
Here's hoping October is a quieter month, and those hurricanes keep
their eyes squarely on the open sea...east, way east, of the Caribbean
