Recommend September 2010 - (Page 12)
to cut or not to cut
There are so many informative articles in your magazine, that I am constantly ripping out pages for reference...but therein lies the problem. Many times I need to copy the opposite page because I want articles from both sides of a page because they will be filed in separate categories: .i.e. cruises and hotels. Is there a way you can have the advertisers only be on one side and the articles be on another? This would make things so much easier for me. Please keep up the good work in having wellwritten articles that seem to have information that I would have never found by just “googling.” Thank you. Barbara A. Clark Luxury Travel Services, LLC Greenfield, WI Lorri Robbins, Recommend’s publisher, responds: Thank you for your note, but because of advertising restrictions, our layouts have to remain the way they are now. One thing that might help, so you don’t have to rip pages and copy them, is if you go to recommend.com, you’ll find the digital version of every issue. So, for example, since you ripped and copied most of July, you could go to recommend.com’s home page, click digital version, go to the table of contents, pick the story or page number that you want to copy, and just print those pages. Thanks again, and enjoy!
Welcome to our annual family travel issue. According to the U.S. Travel Association, U.S. families take on average, 4.5 leisure trips per year, a virtual gold mine for travel agents. What has added even more potential profit in the family market is the requirement for passports for travel to Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada—a positive move for more family sales to other international destinations and it shows. As you’ll see in this issue, family travel product seems to increase every year with more and more hotels, resorts, and tour operators enlarging their family travel programs and itineraries. Africa family travel, for instance, is growing by leaps and bounds and even family travel to China is enjoying an uptick. Tour operators to Latin America are also offering more and more, as you’ll see in our Latin America feature. The same is happening in just about every other place in the world, and we’ve got up-to-the-minute information on all of this right here.

best agent magazine resource
I just wanted to let you know that I think Recommend is the best agent magazine resource in the market! I love the onsite reviews. One aspect of the magazine which I think rates you above the competition is the writing style: nice and concise; informative and to the point. I can’t be bothered with the other magazines anymore. They are just annoying fluff. You read an entire, long article and when you are done you cannot remember any specifics. I am always gleaning restaurant and sightseeing info to pass on to my clients so I can speak like I have just been to the destination. Like my slogan says, ‘“Like talking with a friend who has been there.” Keep up the good work! Julie Bortnick Fayway Travel Elkins Park, PA
