SHOPTALK
STREET SMARTS
Among Sarasota County's signature shopping
experiences are the main street areas that invite people
to stroll, dine, browse art galleries and take in live
performances, all while enjoying the al fresco splendor
of Sarasota County's year-round balmy climate.
A stroll away from Sarasota Bay is the county's highly
walkable Downtown Sarasota area, offering a pleasing
blend of distinctive shops and art galleries, acclaimed
restaurants and lively bars and nightclubs. A quick drive
will bring the visitor to famed St. Armands Circle for a
day of European-style shopping, dining in cozy cafes
and maybe indulging in a day spa experience.
To the south, shopping and sightseeing combine on the
island of Venice, where 100+ unique shops, salons and
other venues line charming boulevards, with dining and
the renowned Venice Theatre in the mix.
Specialty shops are only one feature of Main Street
at Lakewood Ranch; this open-air center also boasts a
pavilion hosting concerts and festivals.
MARKET VALUE
But speaking of markets, there's nothing quite like
the Sarasota Farmers Market, which fills Downtown
Sarasota's Lemon Avenue every Saturday morning with
70+ vendors and 5,000 square feet of fresh produce
and plants, not to mention original and rare items sold
by local artisans. Visitors can grab breakfast or lunch
while they browse - food vendors sell everything from

shops. So when you talk about shopping
locally, you really do that here."

freshly made crepes to sushi - while musicians fill the
air with tunes.
For the mall minded, there are choices galore at
Westfield Southgate, situated in the heart of town and
offering an upscale, boutique shopping experience,
with signature stores including Macy's, Dillard's, Saks
Fifth Avenue, Ann Taylor and Williams Sonoma. Not to
be outdone, Westfield Sarasota Square boasts an array
of fashion, jewelry and specialty stores while being
anchored by Sears, Macy's, JC Penney and Costco.
Bargain hunters will want to head north to Ellenton
Premium Outlets, home to 130 outlet stores including
Kenneth Cole, Michael Kors and Calvin Klein.
But for that one-of-akind item, check out
Sarasota Architectural
Salvage, a huge
warehouse filled with
vintage furniture,
collectibles, items
made from salvage
and decorative
accessories.
