A WHITE (SAND)
WEDDING
S
aying "I do" has a special ring to it in Sarasota
County, thanks to award-winning white sand
beaches, one-of-a-kind attractions and unique
venues that create a picturesque tableau for
memorable wedding ceremonies.
JUST BEACHY
Sunset may signal the end of the day, but for hundreds
of couples every year, it heralds the beginning of a
new life together as they exchange vows against a
background of soft Gulf breezes, gently rolling waves
and a magnificent pink-and-gold sky. Beautiful beaches
fringe the county's coastline for 40 miles and wrap
around offshore keys - including award winners like
Siesta Key and Lido Key - and there's a beach for every
wedding style, from the secluded charms of Manasota
Key to the expansive sands of Caspersen Beach and the
Old Florida feel of Nokomis Beach.
Meanwhile, couples can shake the sand off their feet
and stroll right to their honeymoon suite at the beaches
of Longboat Key.
Getting married in Sarasota is a relatively simple affair:
Apply for your license in person, but no need to wait in
line when you use e-Marriage self-service kiosks, located
at either of the two Clerk and Comptroller's offices
(Historic Courthouse, 2000 Main Street, Sarasota, FL,
and the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, 4000
S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL). There is no waiting period
for non-Florida residents; Florida residents will receive the
license within three days. For complete requirements, visit
sarasotaclerk.com. For information on required permitting
for your dream beach wedding, call the Sarasota County
Call Center at 941-861-5000.

MUTUAL ATTRACTIONS
Sarasota's many attractions also add a special creativity
and personality to the Big Day. At the Ringling Museum
- one of Florida's most prized cultural venues - classic
Greek and Roman statues preside over wedding
ceremonies held in a romantic center courtyard. A
fragrant rose garden, a circus museum and even
the waterfront terrace of John Ringling's own elegant
mansion all provide memorable backdrops for nuptials
at the Ringling.
In the heart of downtown Sarasota, the outside world
slips away at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, whose
sweeping bayfront vistas and lush, flowering ambience
make it a favored spot for exchanging vows. Or
couples might want to take the plunge among the
sharks and reef dwellers of Mote Aquarium, a marinethemed attraction offering a variety of indoor and
outdoor event settings. Meanwhile, the beauty and
history of Sarasota come together at Bay Preserve
at Osprey, whose performance pavilion, historic
boathouse and 1931 Burrows-Matson House are
available for weddings and receptions.
For other ideas and planning assistance, couples can
turn to area event planners who have the experience
and know-how to orchestrate that once-in-a-lifetime
event for anyone who wants to tie the knot in paradise.
VOW WOW
Every Valentine's Day, hundreds of couples renew
their vows on Siesta Beach as the sun goes down
over the Gulf. The event is organized by Sarasota
