I enjoy being in the
wilderness, but Brent's
idea of building a cabin,
taking it apart and
shipping it to Wyoming
sounded outlandish.

I followed Brent Pasquinelli in his rented F-150
to the job site. Brent, a lifelong fly angler, enlisted
a dozen of his closest friends to help him build
his dream cabin in Fremont County. The cabin, a
700-square-foot structure with a front porch facing
the wilderness, was engineered and built by Brent
in Pennsylvania. Using 100-year-old barn wood and
beautiful pieces of hemlock, Brent handcrafted the
cabin, labeled it and then disassembled it. Packed
on an 18-wheeler in mid-August, the structure was
shipped across the country to Dubois. Brent and his
crew had a few weeks to put it back together again.

Brent and I first met months earlier while we were
guests at Jakey's Fork Homestead Bed and Breakfast near
Dubois. I had just come in from a day of fly-fishing
the Wind River. The owner, Carolyn Gillette, told
me I had to meet Brent because we shared the same
passion for fly-fishing. She said he was hard to catch

because he left at the crack of dawn and stayed out
all day. I caught up with him the next day and we
talked about wild trout and fly tying. Brent told
me he once brought the famous fly fisherman Joe
Humphreys to Wyoming. Humphreys, I found out,
stayed at Jakey's Fork and tied flies at the very table
where I was seated for breakfast. Brent and I talked
about wilderness, and how there isn't much left of it
these days. I enjoy being in the wilderness, but Brent's
idea of building a cabin, taking it apart and shipping
it to Wyoming sounded outlandish.
" Is someone making you do this? " I asked, smiling a bit.
Brent shared a laugh and said building the cabin
and the furniture by hand was his dream. He told
me he had a crew of people who believed in the
dream as well. We made plans to meet again later
in the summer.

Brent's property where he would put his cabin, 5
pristine acres, sits adjacent to the Shoshone National
Forest. Long Creek, fringed with willows and sedges,
flows next to the land. Brent mentioned there were
cutthroat trout in the creek, but this wasn't a fishing
trip. The crew had only a few days to get it weatherized before the weather changed.
There was already a hive of activity at the site
when I pulled up. Brent hired two locals from Dubois
- men who specialized in building cabins in hardto-reach places. The rest of the crew consisted of
friends Brent gathered over the years. Among the
group was a retired Army Airborne Ranger colonel,
a father-and-son team from Homer, Pennsylvania,
a former Georgia Tech football player, a fellow who
owns a company that ships high-end bikes all over
the world and others. Though they all came from
different periods of Brent's life, they all seemed eager
to help him achieve his dream cabin. They all seemed
willing to follow his vision.
