Wyoming toad

Western (boreal) toad

Size: .5 inch (metamorph)
to 2.5 inch (adult)
Description: These toads are
tan to dark brown and have dark
blotches surrounding warts. The
underside of this toad is cream or
white with black spots.
Breeding habitat: Shallow water
in ponds, wetlands, oxbows and
flood plains in the Laramie Basin.

Size: .75 inch (metamorph) to 4.5
inches (adult)
Description: This toad is light
olive to dark brown with raised
warts and a white dorsal stripe.
The underside of this toad is
white with black spots.
Breeding habitat: Shallow water
in ponds, flooded meadows and
slow or moving pooled water on
the edge of streams.

Rocky Mountain toad range

Size: .75 inch (metamorph)
to 4.5 inches (adult)
Description: This toad is mottled
tan, gray, dark brown or olive
with irregular dark spots and
many warts. It has a white dorsal
stripe. Its belly is cream colored
and occasionally has black spots.
Breeding habitat: Lower elevation ponds, reservoirs, lakes
and backwater areas of streams
and rivers.

Plains spadefoot toad range

Size: .5 inch (metamorph)
to 2.5 inches (adult)
Description: Light gray or
brown with dark mottling. Skin
is relatively smooth, often with
small, orange warts. Has a bony
lump between its eyes. Its belly
is white.
Breeding habitat: After heavy
rains, they will breed in temporary puddles, ditches, pools and
ponds in prairies, sagebrush
steppe and desert scrub.

		

Size: .75 inch (metamorph)
to 5 inches (adult)
Description: Tan, brown or olive.
This toad often has symmetrical, greenish-black splotches
surrounded by pale rings. The
underside is white or cream.
Breeding habitat: Lower elevation pools, ponds and potholes
or occasionally in backwater or
pooled areas of streams.
