THIRD PLACE Family affair (mule deer) Natrona County Susan Nelson | Casper, Wyoming Canon 6D Mark II: 1/320 sec, f/6.3, ISO 125 T his past summer, I started watching a couple does and their fawns that were hanging around near my house, which is just north of the North Platte River outside Casper. I saw them every day and started talking to them. I stood, not moving just watching and talking. After a bit they started to ignore me. I went out early every morning walking down the road, watching for deer or antelope - both had fawns at this time. I came across these three deer just a little past my house one morning in July, and I loved how the fawn and mama were interacting with an older doe watching from behind. The morning light was perfect to give them a warm glow. It was such a lovely " family " photo. I managed to get quite a few shots before they started walking away. Wyoming Wildlife | 11
