An aerial view of Glendo Reservoir, which is located in Platte and Converse counties. (Esri, NASA, NGA, USGS, FEMA)
of the shoreline is exposed vegetation grows,
and when the reservoir refills over the winter
it floods the vegetation and creates a walleye
factory. "
Walleye spawn in the reservoir and the
river. Glendo is the only reservoir in the state
with a 15-inch size limit for walleye. The
size limit is part of a 10-year effort by Game
and Fish to let fish get bigger and reproduce.
Hahn said the results of the size limit have
been mixed. Prior to the size limit, the average
size of walleye kept was 14 to 14 1/2 inches.
That average has increased to 15 1/2 inches.
With the daily limit for walleye in Wyoming
at six fish, anglers have the chance to take
home a trophy.
Hahn said a 6-pound walleye would be
considered a trophy at Glendo, and the walleye
there tend to be fatter than in other Wyoming
locales. Still, walleye up to 10 pounds
are caught at Glendo every year.
Game and Fish gleans some size information
from Wyoming Walleye Stampede catchand-release
tournaments held on Glendo
twice a year.
" The tournaments don't tell us a lot about
the overall population because tournament
anglers are trying to catch the biggest fish, but
it does give an idea of the big-fish component
in the reservoir, " Hahn said.
In addition to great walleye fishing, Glendo State Park
offers recreation opportunities for outdoor lovers of
all kinds. (Courtesy of Wyoming State Parks)
Check out Glendo State Park
Glendo State Park is a great base of operations whether you want to try the great
walleye fishing on Glendo Reservoir, mountain bike, hike on the trails, enjoy a picnic or
take in a breath-taking sunset. The park has 21 campgrounds with a total of 586 sites
for RVs and tents. There are numerous picnic shelters where a couple or groups can
get out of the summer sun. Visitors can partake in the park's 3D archery range, lounge
on the beach or swim. Hunting is allowed when the seasons are open north and west
of the cattle guard at Waters Point (excluding Bennett Hill Campground) and north of
Indian Point Campground.
A newly-developed, non-motorized trail system has more than 45 miles of trails via
four major trailheads - Dam Overlook, Wetlands, Two Moon and Sandy Beach - and
is open year-round.

and wildlife in Glendo State Park, but not other recreational activities.
