seem to get asked for it more and more."
He bought the company in 2009 when
it had five vehicles. Today, it operates
50 vehicles ranging from sedans to five
56-passenger, ADA-compliant coaches.
In the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, commercial real estate and investment banking
groups are getting property tours on a
weekly basis with ABA member ECS
Transportation Group, according to
its president, Joanne Hazan. "We have
a really strong economy and strong
real estate market here," says Hazan,
whose 20-year-old company operates
55 vehicles.
"We have real estate companies use
us every month," adds Jodi Merritt,
president of ABA member H&L Charter
in the Los Angeles suburb of Rancho
Cucamonga, Calif. "They take groups in
our mini-coaches and full-sized coaches
to see homes in the $200,000 to $1 million range, talking up homes the whole
time they're in transit.
"We've also done work for houseflippers," she adds, noting that buses
equipped with video, Wi-Fi, and USB
ports are a huge selling point. "They take
investors from home to home teaching
them how to become a flipper, holding

educational sessions on our buses." (Her
company also has large corporate clients
that do human resource video training
on buses en route.)
Meanwhile, in Seattle, realtors are
hiring ABA member Starline Luxury
Coaches to ferry brokers to see new
listings. "When it starts raining here and
it gets muddy, it's a convenience to bring
16 brokers to see the same thing," says
CEO Gladys Gillis. "It keeps the property
cleaner and the realtors dry."
How do these tours work? "Real estate
companies usually run a presentation on
a property so that before the passengers
get there, they already have a familiarity
with the property," says Rydbom, whose
company has also been hired by convention and visitor bureaus to familiarize
visiting groups with local areas.
For example, on one occasion, a
business was considering the purchase
of a chain of 20 local gas stations. So, the
seller's agent took the potential buyer to
view the properties one by one, making
presentations about each along the way.
Having business-friendly minicoaches is essential to pleasing such
customers. Premiere #1 Limousine
typically puts them in one of Grech's

GM 28 or Tiffany models. These have
a 30-inch video screen mounted in the
front (or ceiling-mounted TVs), plush
simulated leather seats, and simulated
wood floors. Premiere has added extra
USB ports in these vehicles so all on
board can keep their laptops charged.
Reston puts its real estate groups in
"anything from a sedan or SUV to a Van
Terra," according to Callahan. The Van
Terra seats 14 in a "collaborative" environment around a table with generous
USB ports. "Our Wi-Fi is unthrottled,"
says Callahan, meaning that Reston
offers its business customers the maximum possible bandwidth.
"It's a very exciting time to be in the
transportation industry," adds Callahan.
She encourages other operators to
consider reaching out to new business
segments. "If you start to stovepipe
yourself in one industry, you're not going
to be successful. Everyone you come into
contact with is your potential customer.
It's just layer upon layer of opportunity.
Just embrace it, and go for it!"
