United Agents Lead Unity Tour
for Fallen Police Officers
On May 12, more than 2,200 bicycle
riders from all nine chapters of the
Unity Tour for Fallen Police Officers
arrived at their destination: The
National Law Enforcement Officers
Memorial. United Van Lines agents
logistically supported this annual
event, which has raised $23 million
for the National Law Enforcement
Officers Memorial Fund during the
past 20 years.
Founded in 1997 by New Jersey
police officer Patrick P. Montuore,
the Unity Tour raises awareness of
law enforcement officers who have
died in the line of duty. What began
with 18 riders on a four-day fundraising bicycle ride from Florham
Park, N.J., to Washington, D.C.,
is now an annual event run by an
organization that includes nearly
2,500 members nationwide.
Several months prior to the
Unity Tour, Crown Worldwide
Moving & Storage was approached

by the Fremont (California) Police
Department to ship three police
Harley-Davidson motorcycles to the
East Coast so that three officers could
serve as escorts for the Unity Tour
bike riders. To make this happen,
Crown needed help from other
members of UniGroup Logistics.
Because of their locations, Crown
asked Bohren's Moving & Storage and
Suddath to participate. Both Denise
Hewitt, president of Bohren's, and
Bob Fruchterman, vice president of
logistics for Suddath, agreed to assist.
The transportation portion of the
move was handled by Katie Strayhorn
and her team at UniGroup Logistics.
All of the United agencies involved
provided their logistical services free
of cost.
For more information on the Unity
Tour, visit PoliceUnityTour.com. If you'd
like to participate in logistical support,
please contact Robert Bowen at
robert.bowen@crownwms.com.

This year, more than 2,200 bike riders participated in
the Unity Tour for Fallen Police Officers.
