2016 state report

T

he top 10 list of moving volume by state is made
up of the states with the highest population. While
the order of these states often remains the same, the
inbound and outbound percentages can be telling.
California again tops the 2016 list, with 20.1 percent of U.S.
traffic coming or going from the state. This year, however,
the state is trending toward more shipments going out, after
being balanced last year. The next three states, Texas, Florida
and North Carolina, are all seeing more inbound shipments
in 2016. Many of the more traditional business hubs, such as

New York City and Chicago, continue to be largely outbound
as more regions of the U.S. offer opportunity than they have
in the past.
Taking shipment volume out of the equation, and looking
only at the percentages, Idaho is the top inbound state, with
66.3 percent of all shipments coming in. On the outbound side,
Illinois tops the list, with 62.9 percent of all shipments leaving
the state. For our report, states that fall between 48-52 are
balanced. Anything falling outside of that range is included in the
inbound or outbound categories. This year, it is an even spread,
