Establishing yourself as a capable,
responsible individual who does
not need to be micro-managed
makes the physician-owner(s) job
easier. Furthermore, leadership is
more likely to prioritize items you
bring to their attention when you
only approach them with important matters.
Go the extra mile. There will be
times when your role requires more
of you than what's listed in your
job description. For example, you
may find yourself stretched thin
trying to meet a project deadline
or calm an upset patient. Try to
view these situations as opportunities to prove you are a dedicated,
reliable employee. Although going
above and beyond may occasionally
require staying late, managing a
heavier workload, or biting your
tongue, working through these
situations will demonstrate your
commitment to the practice.
Communicate effectively.
As the liaison between physician-owner(s) and practice staff,
your ability to effectively communicate can either foster trust or
create confusion. When speaking
with colleagues, establish clear
expectations to eliminate room
for errors and increase efficiency.
When communicating with the
physician-owner(s), provide a clear
snapshot of business operations to
allow for informed decisions. By
establishing clear channels of communication, you are facilitating a
mutually respectful and productive
work environment-a core value of
successful practices.
Be a jack of all trades. While
managing daily operations may
be what is technically required of
your role, consider how you can
elevate your skillset and further
contribute to business success. Try
