CCAR Dues and Dues Relief (Continued from page 3)
Here's how dues relief works:
1) Contact the dues chair. This is a confidential
conversation. We can communicate via email or
phone to work out what is affordable for you.
The only thing I report to the controller, Jaqui
Dellaria, is the amount that we agree on. Whatever
the actual amount of CCAR dues you commit to
paying, as long as you pay that amount, you are a
member in good standing, with access to all of the
services and programs the CCAR offers.
2) I understand that it can be difficult to have to
ask every year for dues relief. If your employment
or personal situation is such that you will need
dues relief for more than the current year, that
can be arranged. For those whose circumstance

have resulted in significant financial challenges,
the CCAR has a Hesed Fund to provide support.
Application information is on the CCAR website.
The letters and emails that you receive regarding dues
go out over my name. The dues year begins on July 1,
and the CCAR sends out reminders when payment
is due. If you do not respond, either by making a
payment or by contacting the dues chair to arrange for
dues relief, then your membership is suspended after
non-payment of dues for two years.
Many colleagues assume that my role as dues chair
is difficult, and sometimes it is. As much as we think
that nobody likes to share their troubles, we also tend
to assume that nobody likes to hear someone else's
troubles, even though that is part of what rabbis do.
But I have also had many wonderful conversations
with colleagues whom I otherwise haven't met, and my
sense of rabbinic connection and collegiality always
gets a boost from these calls. And most of the time, I
am part of the solution, and I consider that to be an
honor and a privilege.
If you are able to pay the calculated amount of your
CCAR dues according to the dues schedule, bless you!
Your support for the Reform rabbinate strengthens us
all. If you are unable to pay that amount, by even a
little or by a lot, please contact me. The CCAR needs
you and will support you.
