Leadership Development-Virtual Conference
March 31, 2016

February 23, 12:00 Noon (Special Session at Knesset) through February 28, with a mini-"Herzilya Conference"

This year we encourage every Reform Rabbi to
attend the Israel Convention to demonstrate
Ahavat Yisrael, as well as our commitment to the
Israeli Reform community. Given the unfolding
world events, it is important we bridge Reform
Judaism's relationship to Israel in person.
In 2016, for the first time, we will be staying
in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Spending
part of the conference in Tel Aviv will enable us
to enrich our programming and to be exposed
to a broader spectrum of what Israel has to
offer today.
Our programming is shaping up to be exciting,
varied, and with a focus on cutting-edge
experiences and on opportunities to learn and
engage with Israelis in a variety of settings.
Together with our MARAM and European
colleagues, we will learn from leading thinkers

and teachers ranging from politicians to
scholars to journalists to members of our
Reform Communities.
Our opening program will take place at
the Knesset where we will be hosted by the
Knesset's Diaspora Committee (beginning
around 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 23.
Our week will end with an engaging a mini"Herzilya conference" on Sunday, February
28, at the IDC Herzilya, one of Israel's most
amazing start-ups as a non-profit university
that today includes leading thinkers from a
wide range of academic fields and political
perspectives, as well as unique backgrounds
from throughout the Middle East and worldwide.
Each day you will have a range of choices for
study and learning, including tracks on leading
issues of living in a Jewish Democratic State,

on peace in Israel, social justice concerns
from gender to immigration to education, and
environmental issues; special opportunities to
explore the sights, sounds and smells of Tel
Aviv; outstanding study sessions with teachers
such as Ruth Calderon. Evenings will include
unique cultural programs and dinner options
in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and Shabbat dinners
with Reform congregations throughout Israel.
Friday morning is an unprecedented chance
to support Reform Judaism in Israel by
raising money by participating in the Tel Aviv
Marathon, 5K Walk/Run or 10K (primarily for
IMPJ and MARAM). If you are not the runner/
walker/cheerleader type, there will be several fun
and healthful options for the morning as well as a
wellness track within Israel.
