LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

New Year Brings New
Opportunities

here is no doubt that 2020 was a challenging year. The pandemic
has disrupted nearly every aspect of our lives, and, like many of you,
I welcome 2021 and a time when we will get back to normal. In
looking back at the past year, I've realized that the pandemic has made me
more appreciative of things I took for granted. One of those is the ability
to meet face to face and connect with others in person.
Relationships are vital not only to our well-being but also to our success.
Zoom calls, virtual meetings and online forums have played a valuable
role in keeping us plugged in, and ILMA has done a terrific job of using
technology to foster communication. Yet there is always something to be
said for the interaction that takes place at in-person meetings.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet face to face again. One of
the best chances for that will be during ILMA Engage, which will take
place June 23-25 in Carlsbad, California. Please save the date and plan to
attend. It will be so great to see all of you!
It will also be essential for us to connect with lawmakers this year.
The election is over, and the coming year will bring many new faces to
Washington, D.C., including new members of Congress, new staffers and
new officials within federal agencies. We have a lot of work ahead of us to
educate them about the lubricants industry, our businesses, our employees
and our communities. Whether you're connecting in your district or on
Capitol Hill, ILMA can help you find ways to engage with your representatives. We must forge new relationships early and share our stories about
the vital work we do.
I encourage you to focus on building your connections and growing
your network throughout 2021. Until we are back meeting face to face,
pick up the phone, send an email or stay in touch on social media, but
don't forget the power of a real-life connection. As things open up and it is
safer to interact with others, make it a point to connect with those around
you. All opportunities come from people, and networking is one of the
best ways we can discover new contacts, increase our knowledge and find
new opportunities.
The beginning of a new year always brings the promise of new beginnings, and I hope your year is off to a great start.
