Each of those issues can run deep. For example,
Eggenschwiler said, regulatory issues can cover multiple areas,
such as chemical control regulations, multifaceted reporting,
hazard communication, packaging, warehousing, inland
transportation, international transportation and export control
regulations imposed by the U.S. and other countries. "Other
topics that are of interest are similarly expansive," he said.
At the committee's first meeting in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, there was a presentation from the U.S. Department
of Commerce and the Export-Import Bank of the United
States, Powell said. The committee will also be turning to
academia, such as Marymount College and University of
California at Berkley, and related trade associations for
additional information.
ILMA has partnered with other associations, such as the
Union of the European Lubricants' Industry (UEIL) and the
Asian Lubricant Manufacturers Union (ALMU), to develop
information exchanges, Alfano said. "Sharing information
among all of the associations will benefit everyone," she said.
Powell said, "We're going to plumb all of these various
wells and start collecting and collating contact lists for other
parts of the world."
The lists will include contacts in the legal, financial,
government and business fields. "We'll have resources for all
of the various avenues somebody might need to research as
they look at going into a country," Powell said.

The committee will initially focus on South America,
Mexico and Asia, which were the regions ILMA members
said they are the most interested in, Powell said. "If someone
has specific questions, needs or wants, they could come to us
for a specific country," he said.
The committee is designed to be a resource for ILMA
members, and Eggenschwiler said he hopes it will be a
forum for insight and know-how where attendees can
discuss best practices and difficult situations.
"I see it as a type of working group where topics and
specific types of issues can be discussed and hopefully in a
way that enables everyone to leave the meeting with ideas
and potential answers," he said.
The committee is open to all ILMA members, and several,
including some that are already doing business overseas,
have joined it. "We encourage any members who have an
interest in guiding ILMA and how we involve ourselves to
participate," Alfano said, adding that members can contact
her, or Powell at rpowell@moroil.com, to get involved in the
Global Affairs & Trade Committee.
Powell encouraged ILMA members to not only join the
new committee, but to also investigate ALMU and consider
membership in that organization, too.
