PEOPLE IN THE PROFESSION
John Barton, P.E. has joined HNTB
Corporation, assuming a national role
as Department of Transportation (DOT)
market sector leader and senior vice president. Barton, working in collaboration with
regional/division presidents and office leaders, develops and directs strategies that
enhance HNTB's service to state departments of transportation across the country.
He is based in the firm's Plano, TX, USA office.
Barton comes to HNTB from the Texas A&M
University System where he most recently
served as associate vice chancellor and executive director of the RELLIS Campus. Prior to
that, Barton spent nearly 30 years at the Texas
Department of Transportation. He served
the Department in several leadership roles,
including most recently as deputy executive
director, administration.

Member Updates

Daniel Haake, AICP, CMILT (M) is now
senior transportation planner with HDR in
the Minneapolis, MN, USA office. Formerly
with SRF Consulting and CDM Smith, Dan has
helped more than 40 clients overcome infrastructure and policy impediments that hinder
their ability to compete in the global marketplace. A national planning leader, Dan serves
on several national Transportation Research
Board, ITE and American Planning Association
committees, and is a frequent contributor to
publications, including: Planning magazine,
ITE Journal, TR News, and Governing. Dan
received a master of urban and regional planning from Ball State University, who named
him a Graduate of the Last Decade in 2013.
Laurie Matkowski (M) has been named
Vice Chair of the National Operations Center
of Excellence (NOCoE). Laurie, who is Gannett Fleming's director of Connected and
Automated Vehicle Services, is nationally
recognized for nearly two decades of transportation operations planning in the Philadelphia
region. She serves on the ITE TSMO Executive
Council and CV/AV Steering Committee.

NOCoE also announced Jennifer Cohan
as the new Chair of the NOCoE Board of
Directors. Secretary Cohan brings more than
27 years of state public service, including
being the third woman to lead the Delaware
Department of Transportation. NOCoE also
welcomes two new board members, Roger
Millar, Secretary, Washington State Department of Transportation and Mark Lowe,
Director, Iowa Department of Transportation.
Brooke McKenna (M), assistant director
for Street Management, Cambridge Traffic,
Parking + Transportation Department and
Marcel Porras (M), chief sustainability
officer, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, are members of the inaugural class of
Leadership NACTO. Leadership NACTO is a
new fellowship program from the National
Association of City Transportation Officials
(NACTO) that offers promising leaders in city
transportation the opportunity for in-depth,
targeted professional development and
training, as well as sustained connections
with a cohort of other emerging leaders.
