PEOPLE IN THE PROFESSION
Rachael Bronson, a multimodal and
Vision Zero specialist, has been hired by
Traffic Planning and Design, Inc. (TPD) as a
transportation planning specialist to supplement the firm's reach across the eastern
United States. Ms. Bronson is a project
manager at TPD and operates out of TPD's
newest office location in Asheville, NC,
USA. Rachael has 11 years of experience in
public and non-profit sector work in multimodal transportation policy, planning,
programs, design, and construction. She
most recently served as a senior city planner in the Department of Public Works for
the City and County of Denver, CO, USA. In
this role, she managed the Denver Bicycle
and Vision Zero Programs, overseeing and
implementing projects and annual work
efforts. She holds a master's degree in civil
engineering from the University of Colorado Denver.
Frederick G. "Bud" Wright, executive
director of the American Association of
State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), plans to retire at the end
of 2018. He made the announcement on
May 24 during the AASHTO Spring Meeting.
AASHTO President and Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner
John Schroer said the group's executive
committee would begin a search for a new
executive director.
Wright was appointed to be AASHTO's seventh executive director in November 2012.
He led AASHTO through the development
of a new strategic plan that broadened the
organizational focus to include all modes.
Prior to joining AASHTO, Wright was a consultant based in Alexandria, VA, USA. He also
served as executive director of the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA) from 2001
to 2008, assisting FHWA's administrator in
establishing policies, programs, and priorities for the $40 billion annual federal-aid
highway program.

Wright began his career in 1975 as an economist in the FHWA Office of Planning. In
1986, he was selected for a congressional
fellowship, serving with the Senate Appropriations Committee staff. In 1989 and 1990,
he was a member of the National Transportation Policy Team. From 1990 to 1992, Wright
served as a special assistant to FHWA's executive director, working on the development
of legislative provisions and negotiations
with Congress that led to the landmark Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act
of 1991. In 1992, he was appointed division
administrator in Nevada, the agency's first
non-engineer to hold such a position. From
2001 to 2002, Wright served as FHWA program manager for safety. He also worked
as director of the Office of Budget and
Finance, where he worked extensively on
the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st
Century (TEA-21). Wright holds a bachelor
of arts degree in economics from Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University in
Blacksburg, VA, USA.

Xavier R. Falconi, P.E. (M) is now transportation planning manager at Marlin
Engineering Inc. Previously he was the city
traffic engineer and transportation program
manager for the City of Delray Beach, FL,
USA, where he managed the planning and
operation of the City's trolley, the Bicycle and
Pedestrian Program, and the day-to-day traffic operations and coordination with other
transportation agencies in the region. Xavier
is a member of the ITE Advocacy Committee.
Carla J. Stueve, P.E., PTOE (M), a
transportation project delivery director
with Hennepin County, MN, USA has been
appointed to a one-year term as Hennepin
County highway engineer, effective May
22, 2018. Carla is a professional engineer,
registered under the laws of the State of
Minnesota, and is a certified professional
traffic operations engineer. As the county

highway engineer, Carla is responsible for
delivering the county's road and bridge
projects in the capital program, amounting
to approximately $50 million annually. She
was appointed to the post previously held
by Jim Grube, making her the ninth-and
first female-Hennepin County highway
engineer.
