INTRODUCING THE LEADERSHIPITE 2020 CLASS
This year's incoming class of LeadershipITE scholars marks the seventh year of the Institute of Transportation Engineers' (ITE) premier
leadership development program. ITE is pleased to welcome the following 20 LeadershipITE members who will embark on a professional
development journey unlike any other in the industry. Through the
intensive program, scholars will have the opportunity to deepen their
knowledge of the transportation profession and advance their leadership skills by participating in workshops, conferences, webinars,
and a wealth of other professional development activities, ultimately
graduating at the Joint ITE and Southern District Annual Meeting and
Exhibition in New Orleans, LA, USA, August 9-12, 2020. Please join us
in congratulating this year's accomplished LeadershipITE class.

Rebecca Biro, P.E., PTOE (M) has a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Bucknell
University and a master's degree in civil engineering
with a focus in transportation from University of Delaware. Rebecca has worked at Johnson, Mirmiran, and
Thompson (JMT) since completing her master's
degree in 2013. She currently works in JMT's Philadelphia, PA, USA
office where she is a project engineer in the traffic department.
Rebecca has volunteered on several Mid-Colonial District and Mid-Atlantic Section (MASITE) annual meeting committees, and has been a
member of the MASITE board serving as Eastern Area event coordinator since January 2019.

Alex Bourne, P.E. (M) works as a transportation development engineer at RS&H in Tampa, FL, USA.
He received a bachelor's degree and master's degree
in civil engineering from the University of South Florida in 2014 and 2017, respectively. He has served as
the Advocacy and Outreach/Volunteering Committee
chair of Tampa Bay ITE since 2018.
Eddie Curtis, P.E. (M) is a traffic management
specialist with the Federal Highway Administration
Office of Operations and Resource Center. He manages the Traffic Signal Management Program that
provides research, guidance, and outreach to advance
arterial operations and traffic signal management. He
also provides training and technical assistance on issues related to traffic signal management, operations, and is the team leader for the
Adaptive Signal Control Technology Program within the Every Day
Counts Initiative. Eddie has 16 years of experience in traffic signal operations, and previously worked for the City of Los Angeles, CA, USA for
11 years and PB Farradyne for two years. He holds a bachelor's degree
in civil engineering from California State University-Los Angeles and is
a licensed professional engineer in the state of California.

Elaine Du, E.I.T. (M) is senior traffic engineer/
planner with AKRF in White Plains, NY, USA. Elaine
earned her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from
The Cooper Union. Her past work includes traffic planning, engineering, and design for major transportation
and infrastructure projects in and around New York
City, NY. Elaine is passionate about improving communities through
thoughtful Complete Street design and municipal traffic engineering
for local communities. She currently serves the ITE New York/New
Jersey Met Section as co-chair of the Communications Committee and
editor of the TransTalk newsletter. Elaine is a STEM education advocate
and volunteers at a New York City cat adoption/rescue group.
Nancy Dutta, Ph.D., E.I.T. (M) is a transportation engineer at Gorove/Slade Associates Inc. in
Virginia, USA. She moved to the United States from
Bangladesh in 2011 to pursue her master of science in
civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She previously worked at Binghamton
Metropolitan Transportation Study as a traffic engineer. After two years
of government service, she pursued a doctorate degree and graduated from University of Virginia (UVA) in 2019 with a Ph.D. in civil
engineering. She was the secretary and outreach chair of UVA Student
Chapter of ITE from 2016 to 2019. She serves as a reviewer in multiple
TRB subcommittees related to traffic operations and safety.

If you are interested in applying for one of the prestigious
ITE Legacy Program scholarships next year, the applications
will be due to ITE Headquarters, along with the LeadershipITE
applications, in mid-September 2020. Scholarship recipients
are selected by the ITE Legacy Program Oversight Committee
based on an individual's applications and letters of support from
employers and mentors that describe why they deserve this
