Peter's commitment to the cause and principles of ITE over two full terms as Global
District Director effectively carried forward
and developed the global presence of ITE.
Without Peter's commitment to share the
ITE ethos on the global transport stage, as
well as to travel from New Zealand to every
ITE Board of Direction meeting in Washington, DC, USA and Annual Meetings spread
across North America, the Global District
would not be where it is today. ITE owes a
debt of gratitude for his drive, enthusiasm,
and personality that has maintained the
position of ITE as the truly global community of transportation professionals.
Among his many accomplishments
and tireless efforts with ITE, he has been
a member since 1984, and is a Fellow Life
Member. He was involved with the Nominations Committee from 2009-2014. He
has been a member of several councils

and development of others,
and to the community.
including Expert Witness, Consultants Council, Transportation Planning Council, and the
Transit Council.
Peter has committed to teaching, mentoring and contributing to the growth and
development of others, and to the community. His contributions to the professional
community through membership organization Engineering NZ (formerly the Institution

of Professional Engineers NZ), have been
a shining example to all who have been
touched by Peter's professionalism, care,
and consideration.
Peter and his wife Beverly established
Traffic Design Group (now Stantec) in 1976.
In 2016, the company celebrated its 40th
anniversary of working in the areas of traffic
engineering assessment, design, planning
and development of urban networks, intersections, and operational management.
Peter was instrumental in the management and delivery of the country's first
motorway ramp signaling project drawing
on extensive technical research to deliver
one of the world's first system-wide ramp
signaling solutions, but also negotiating and
reaching cross-sector agreements between
transport and local agencies and Councils.
Additionally, Peter is a nationally recognized
leader in the preparation and delivery of
expert witness testimony. He brought
technical expertise together with professional delivery skills to numerous accident
cases and land use/transportation planning/
infrastructure applications spanning more
than 1,200 separate hearings over the past
45 years. His attention to detail, extensive
knowledge, and unparalleled professional
acuity in the delivery of expert testimony,
means that he is sought out by national and
regional transportation agencies to not only
deliver expert evidence, but also to direct
and manage the preparation and delivery of
transportation evidence by others.
Congratulations to Peter for receiving this
tremendous honor! itej

The highest recognition of notable and outstanding professional achievement ITE presents
to an individual is election to ITE Honorary Membership. Since 1933 when the first Honorary
Member was selected, only 84 individuals have been honored this way.
