GETTING TO KNOW

Stan Fraser
President/CEO, Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union
Columbus, Neb.

Q: What led you to the credit union
sector and to Nebraska Energy
Federal Credit Union?

A: My quest for a career with a greater

sense of purpose brought me from a bank
to the credit union industry. I have now
been a credit union CEO for nearly 32
years - for the past eight years here at
Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union.
A recruiter first interested me in coming
to Nebraska Energy FCU, and once my
wife and I saw the area and met the board
members, we knew this was the place for
us. This state and this credit union have
a rich history of world-class accomplishments, including the University of
Nebraska's five NCAA football national
championships and solid Midwestern
values. Nebraska is the only state where
all but a very small percentage of electricity is produced by publicly owned cooperatives rather than for-profit corporations.
Sounds a lot like credit unions, doesn't it?

Q: How do you lead an

engaged team? Describe your
leadership philosophy.

A: We are dedicated to the service of

irresistibly attractive choice for our
potential members, as well as the service
provider of choice to our members.

Q: What has your credit union

introduced recently in the way of
technology that has your members
most excited?

A: We invest in technology rather than

branches. We serve our membership
from one office and through virtual
touch points. The financial benefit of
having almost no fixed assets is passed
on to the members. Nebraska Energy
FCU returns earnings to its members
in the form of lower loan rates, higher
yields, lower fees, increased services and
improved access to services. Our most
recent newly introduced member benefit
is mobile deposit, and from the member
demand we are seeing, this service hits
the "sweet spot" with the wide geographical coverage we need to be relevant for
our members throughout Nebraska.

Q: How does your investment in your
employees and community benefit
Nebraska Energy members?

A: It is in our members' best interest to

our membership. This common purpose makes us focus daily on how we
can improve our service. I want to work
collaboratively with the best-trained,
best-equipped, and most sincerely compassionate and caring service-oriented
people possible. And I do.

ensure that our services are provided by
well-trained professionals. The potential
for career advancement for employees
is heightened as a result of their understanding that learning is not an event,
but a continuous process.

I want to improve processes to remove
barriers to service and to be so convenient that we are perceived as an

Our success comes from those in the
electric power industry in Nebraska. We
are paying it forward each year for a few

most-deserving members who are starting their careers in that industry or are
improving their opportunity to be more
successful. We provide scholarships for
higher education to a number of members each year. Additionally, we provide
four scholarships specifically for students
in lineman's school in Nebraska.

Q: Nebraska Energy has been

recognized as one of the best credit
unions in the nation with regard to
member benefits. What Nebraska
Energy awards and accomplishments
are you most proud of?

A: We care about our members' finan-

cial success and focus on what is in their
best interest. The result of that focus is
that our members do well, and so does
the credit union. While we are proud
of the recognition we received for being
one of the best in the nation for member
benefits, we did not have such an award
as a goal. We are most proud of the success stories of individual members who
benefit from our services, one at a time.
We focus on doing what is in the best
interest of each individual member, and
the accomplishments we are most proud
of are helping them achieve their dreams
that require a financial catalyst.
