Del-One Federal Credit Union
Dion Williams has been president and CEO for three years. He works in tandem
with Del-One's Board and staff to effectively serve members and continually strives
to add value to the credit union's membership.
Q. Describe your leadership style
rative. I believe in surrounding myself
with outstanding talent, communicating
the vision and then getting out of their
way and letting them shine. More than
anything, I've been a lifelong admirer of
Ronald Reagan. His optimism and his
belief in the ability of every individual
to be exceptional and self-sufficient
is something that's always resonated
with me. Furthermore, that concept is
a natural fit with credit unions and our
commitment to improving the financial
lives of our members.
On the technology side, Del-One has
added online account opening and
funding, mobile apps for iPhone and
Android, and by year's end we will have
an iPad app, personal financial management platform and mobile deposit
capture. Lastly, our call center hours
were expanded to 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. I'm looking forward to the
members having all of these services and
service delivery channels at their disposal
in 2014. The members were patient with
us throughout the year as these projects
were in progress, and I'm really excited
about them enjoying the benefits as we
enter the New Year.
Q. What makes you want to get up
Q. Charitable involvement is
and how you developed it.
A. My leadership style is very collabo-
and go to work every day?
A. My wife and I have three daugh-
ters, ages 10, 8 and 5. One of the most
important values we want to instill in
them growing up is to have a servant's
heart. The opportunity to serve others
is the reason I have spent my career in
the credit union industry. The ability to
serve others and set that example for my
girls inspires me.
Q. What are you most looking
forward to about this New Year?
A. Over the past year, Del-One has
invested in infrastructure and service
delivery channels. We relocated one
branch, renovated another, gained two
new locations through a merger and
opened our first high school branch.
important to Del-One FCU. What
are some of your recent efforts?
A. Del-One continues to see growth in
the Del-One Foundation, a nonprofit
corporation that has been formed to
raise funds for charitable purposes,
specifically the purpose of benefiting the
residents of Delaware. The foundation
funds and sponsors various charities
throughout the year. A few of the beneficiaries for 2013 include: Autism Delaware, Alzheimer's Association of Delaware and the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation. The Del-One Foundation
was nominated for the 2013 Governor's
Outstanding Volunteer Awards.
Q. Has your credit union received
any other accolades?
A. Del-One is proud to have been
recognized in both 2012 and 2013 by
employees and the general public. In the
[Wilmington] News Journal's annual
survey, Del-One was voted as a Top
Workplace. Also, in the News Journal's
Readers' Choice Awards, Del-One was
selected as Best Credit Union. We're
proud of how this reflects on Del-One as
an employer as well as our standing in
the entire state of Delaware.
Q. What book/podcast/blog
would you recommend to
people who want to better their
knowledge of this industry?
A. Jim Blaine on Credit Unions (www.
genuinely appreciate the common sense
and candor in making some valid points
about the state of the industry today.
