CONNECTING PHENOMENAL LIVES Retiring PHA CEO Honored during World PH Day Event O n the eve of World PH Day, nearly 100 members of the PH community gathered in Silver Spring, Md., near Washington D.C., to honor PHA's first CEO Rino Aldrighetti, who retired June 19. The event recognized PHA's 25th anniversary and Aldrighetti's role throughout the years in helping the international PH community grow and unite, strengthening the global fight against PH. World PH Day started in 2012 during a scientific symposium in Madrid, Spain. As leaders gathered there from around the world they agreed that they should establish one day a year to bring attention to the importance of improving the quality of life and life expectancy of people living with PH worldwide. They chose May 5 because it's the anniversary of the first child's death in Spain from a form of PH that resulted from toxic rapeseed oil more than 30 years ago. During the celebration, Rino received tributes via video from international leaders from PHA Europe, China, Japan, Venezuela, Spain and South Africa. The celebration also included the launch of the Rino Aldrighetti: Leading from the Heart Fund. The fund is an opportunity for the PH community to establish a stream of ongoing support for PHA's comprehensive programs and the general mission of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, while honoring the association's first CEO. As an international PH community, we stand with those worldwide who seek access to PH therapies. We're empowered in our fight to conquer this disease and improve life for PH patients and families universally. -Rino Aldrighetti PHA Board member, Diane Ramirez, a 29-year PH survivor who served as the event's master of ceremonies, fought back tears as she spoke of Rino's contributions to the world's PH community.
