AROUND THE WORLDWIDE ERC ®

In Case You Missed It (ICYMI)
Since the June issue, so much has happened in the world
around us, and Worldwide ERC® continues to work for
our membership. In a joint message from Chairman of the
Board Ed Hannibal, GMS, and President and CEO Lynn
Shotwell, GMS, Worldwide ERC® expressed deep sadness
over the senseless death of George Floyd and reinforced its
long-standing commitment to supporting all nationalities,
races, colors, religions, ethnicities, sexes, preferences, and
thoughts by inviting all of us to take urgent yet thoughtful
action and embrace the strength of diversity. We took hope,
too, in evidence that the mobility community is continuing
to build diverse and inclusive cultures within their organizations, optimizing each individual and elevating talent to
drive change and prosperity for all.
We also welcomed a new addition to the Worldwide
ERC® team. Rebecca Peters joined as vice president of
government affairs, leading our global public policy and
advocacy strategy. Drawing from her experience in leading workplace immigration policy strategy, Peters' work
will ensure that governments around the world continue
to turn to Worldwide ERC®'s members for mobility solutions. Peters says, "I am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity to promote the primary importance of
people in building workforces around the world. As this
pandemic forces employers and governments to reevaluate workplace policies, Worldwide ERC® and its members
will be at the forefront of providing solutions that allow
businesses to function safely."
Our government affairs advocacy also included ensuring
that companies can enjoy dual usage of loan forgiveness
and payroll tax deferment under the Paycheck Protection
Program. We've advocated for such measures in letters
to Congressional leaders, and we are pleased that U.S.
President Donald Trump signed into law the Paycheck
Protection Program Flexibility Act. This extends from eight
to 24 weeks the time frame in which PPP funds can be
utilized, changes a requirement that employers must spend
75% of the loan on payroll and 25% on nonpayroll costs to
60% and 40%, respectively, and allows small businesses to
have their loans forgiven under the PPP and still defer their
portion of payroll taxes.
