Mobility Matters
Interesting, challenging, and surprising stats and finds around the globe

When attending a dinner party in a Russian home, it's good form to try every dish
that's offered. Hosts there usually spend a lot of time preparing food items they
rarely make for themselves. Also, drinking and toasting are common, so don't
refuse alcohol when it's offered. If you don't drink, let the host know in advance.

No matter how filling or satisfying a meal might be
in Australia, don't sit back and tell your host, "I'm
stuffed." That means that you're pregnant.

It's not unusual to be greeted at a Chinese home by
someone wearing slippers or socks or even with bare
feet. If that's the case, remove your shoes; you'll
probably find a shoe rack near the home's entrance.
Your host may provide a pair of slippers or sandals; if
not, walk around in your socks or bare feet. In some
homes, there will be a pair of communal plastic
sandals to be worn when visiting the restroom.

The Kenyan attitude toward time is more patient and
relaxed than what is found in many cultures around the
world. Arriving at someone's home before the appointed
time will definitely make the host uncomfortable. It's
best to arrive at least a half-hour late.

Brazilians are affectionate people, something foreigners should
be aware of when visiting their country. Air kisses-a light
touching of the cheeks accompanied by kissing the air (no lips
involved)-are a common greeting. However, the number of
kisses can vary from region to region. To avoid embarrassment,
it's best to ask a native for advice before leaning in for a kiss.
