ention Seattle, and people's minds
will conjure up some combination
of the movie Sleepless in Seattle, rain,
Starbucks, grunge music, Amazon,
and the fish throwers at Pike Place Market. However,
the city of Seattle and nearby areas have much more
to offer residents. Seattle and the surrounding region
have experienced immense growth and evolution
over the years, and many exciting changes are coming
that are sure to impact the market.
Located in King County, Washington, Seattle sits
between the vast Puget Sound to the west and Lake
Washington to the east. Across Puget Sound lie the
nearby island and peninsula communities of Kitsap
County, which house many military families due to
the local naval base. To the east of Seattle across Lake
Washington lies the Eastside, home to Microsoft in
Redmond and many large businesses in Bellevue,
among other higher-end communities. North of
Seattle is Everett, site of the Boeing Assembly Factory
and Paine Field, Puget Sound's newest commercial
airport. Head south from Seattle by car or light rail,
and you'll find the bustling city of Tacoma, which has
experienced great growth recently.
Within the Seattle city limits, however, you'll find a
city that has evolved far beyond its roots as a timber

2017, the Puget Sound metropolitan area's population was approximately 3.9 million, making it the
14th-largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S.
The city is home to several universities, including the University of Washington, a state university known for its medical program and top-notch
engineering graduates. UW's Seattle campus is the
center of the University District, located not too far
from Seattle's downtown core. Other Seattle neighborhoods include Fremont, Wallingford, Northgate,
Ballard, Queen Anne, Belltown, Magnolia, Capitol
Hill, West Seattle, and Beacon Hill.
Each Seattle core neighborhood has a different feel
and varied amenities and attractions-from the Ballard
Locks and Gasworks Park to the bustling restaurants
and nightlife on Pike and Pine Streets on Capitol
Hill, extending into downtown. Residents also enjoy
numerous outdoor activities close by, including hiking,
boating, camping, skiing, and others.
Seattle's tech area is anchored by Amazon and
Microsoft, but many other tech companies have
recognized the local talent and appealing attributes of
