ASHP Celebrates 1,000 th Accredited Pharmacy Residency
A major milestone in ASHP’s ongoing effort to increase the number of pharmacy residencies in the U.S. occurred in April. That is when ASHP accredited its 1,000th pharmacy residency—the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center Department of Pharmacy in Chicago. Jesse Brown’s Post-Graduate Year Two program in health-system pharmacy practice administration is under the leadership of Richard J. Rooney, Pharm.D. With the largest pharmacy residency program in the U.S., the VA allows pharmacists to round with patient-care teams, help guide drug therapies, and obtain prescriptive authority within their defined scopes of practice.

Ensuring Safe Parenteral Drug Therapy for Peds
Most FDA-approved drugs are not formally tested in children and lack even basic dosing information for pediatric use. ASHP’s Pediatric Injectable Drugs (also known as “The Teddy Bear Book”) is the only reference that compiles evidencebased parenteral administration recommendations specifically for pediatric patients. For 25 years, this unique, comprehensive resource has provided reliable age-specific dosage and administration guidelines to pharmacists, nurses, and other health care professionals who administer parenteral drugs to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. This new ninth edition features 221 monographs of the most commonly used pediatric medications. For more information about Pediatric Injectable Drugs, go to the ASHP online bookstore.
