Carson Vinyard, 19, of the Altus FFA Chapter, in Oklahoma, was named the national winner of the Diversified Crop Production-Placement Proficiency award at the 86th National FFA Convention. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gain hands-on career experience. Diversified Crop Production-Placement is one of 49 FFA proficiency award programs and is sponsored by NCIS and Crop Production Services. Carson Vinyard is a fourth generation farmer to raise cotton and wheat in southwest Oklahoma. He has proved to be a source in innovation and progress on the family's 14,000 acre farm. He has helped install and design drip irrigation lines on 1,600 acres and worked to implement GPS systems to improve efficiency while cutting production costs.
