ALCTS - CMDS Journal Review Benefits Beyond the Budget: Dollars and Sense When is a comprehensive journal review more than a journal review? When Librarian Subject Liaisons, Technical Service Librarians, and Faculty can come together to right-size a journal collection at a leading urban research university and still manage to keep smiling. This presentation probes the usefulness of a lengthy planning process, the importance of collecting available data, and the unintended consequences (good and bad) that emerged from campuswide and inter-departmental contact during the review. Track: Collection Management & Technical Services Subtrack: Collection Development Speakers: Paul Beavers, Wayne State University, Assessment Officer; Beth Callahan, Wayne State University, Assistant Director, Acquisitions; Cindy Krolikowski, Wayne State University, Public Services Librarian; Diane Paldan, Wayne State University, Serials Librarian ASCLA Library Snapshot Day: A Nationwide Success Story of Library Advocacy Library Snapshot Day, a program initiated by the New Jersey State Library and now happening in 27 states nationwide, provides a way for libraries of all types across a state, region, system or community to show what happens in a single day in their libraries. This initiative provides an easy means to collect statistics, photos and stories that will enable library advocates to prove the value of their libraries to decision makers and increase public awareness. This session will provide an overview of results from different states, and also prepare participants to easily hold their own Library Snapshot Day. Track: Administration and Leadership Subtrack: Leadership & Management LITA ALSC Charlemae Rollins President’s Program: How Libraries can Best Serve Special Needs Patrons, Especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Recognizing the increasing number of children with ASD, this program will help librarians create innovative programming to positively integrate all patrons. Stork, whose writings have humanized these disorders, and Patricia Twarogowski, a librarian recognized for her effective programming for special needs children, in a panel discussion.
