SHOW DIRECTOR’S NOTE The Big 5-0s Jim Scott has more than 35 years of diverse experience as a senior executive and leader, retiring as president of the Plumbing Products Division at Elkay. With a focus on positive change and growth, Scott has helped develop organizations in North and South America, as well as in Asia. Always active, Scott and his wife Ann enjoy a large family with eight energetic grandchildren. He is an avid golfer, skier, chef, reader and photographer. With a lifelong interest in motorcycles, Scott has traveled from Chicago throughout the U.S. and Canada. This year is my 50th high school reunion. I celebrated by just returning from my second ski trip of the winter, energized and ready for the next adventure. Sure it’s fun to look back, and I enjoy connecting with old friends, but I prefer to look forward. For skiing, that means taking advantage of newer and better equipment, high-tech outerwear and, yes, paying close attention to leading those grandkids safely down the mountain. The year I graduated from high school, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) was formed to bring knowledge, skills and standards to an emerging design profession. Stop by the NKBA booth, share a little history, and say thanks for helping to grow a great industry. While history defines us, it’s the future that inspires us. And for KBIS, that future is solidly focused on three important areas. First, we continue to develop more choices for manufacturers to earn a high return on their investment in the KBIS brand. Second, we are engaging the audience in defining the KBIS experience. And third, we have introduced KBIS 365 as a platform for a year-round focus on everything kitchen and bath. This cooperation among manufacturers, channel partners and design professionals has defined a generation. Now it’s time to look to the next 50 years when change and therefore opportunity will be amazing. While much of this change will be technology driven, there remains no substitute for in-person relationships. When I look at my high school reunion website, I see the faces of old friends.
