MGM National Harbor
MGM National Harbor drops anchor on Maryland's vibrant waterfront
The $1.3 billion MGM National Harbor casino resort will open its doors late 2016 on the eastern shore of
the Potomac River, bringing 234 guest rooms and 74 suites to the lively 350-acre waterfront destination.
The contemporary complex, built primarily from local materials, will offer more than 27,000 sf of meeting
and convention facilities, as well as a 3,000-seat theater and more than 125,000 sf of gaming. Guest rooms
incorporate sustainable technology like auto-adjusting temperature and lighting, both with programmable
settings, for when the room is vacant. Twelve unique dining concepts featuring celebrity chefs Marcus
Samuelsson, José Andrés, and Bryan and Michael Voltaggio-are also in the works.
"The resort will offer [MICE] groups an ideal location for any event," says Sheila Hession, executive director
of sales for MGM National Harbor. "With spacious guest rooms, flexible meeting space and stunning panoramic
views of the Potomac River, the 308-room resort sits a short distance from Washington, DC. Groups can visit
significant historical sites, monuments and the beautiful grounds of George Washington's estate at Mount
Vernon during their stay, all while enjoying the modern elegance of this new resort along with all the amenities."
A permanent collection of art will be integrated into the resort's public spaces, inspired by the landscape
and heritage of the National Capital Region. The MGM National Harbor Heritage Collection will showcase
works by local and international sculptors, photographers and mixed-media artists, including Margaret
Boozer, Alice Aycock, Sam Gilliam and more. Artworks include three 60-foot-tall stainless steel figures outside
the entrance, the seven-foot tall "Cinderella Shoe" in the retail promenade, and an 80-foot-long cluster of
aluminum "Whirlpools" in the casino drive.
